I just finished reading the article from the Upfront Magazine called "Putin's Power Play", by Patricia Smith. This article is a very non-opinionated piece that just states the bare facts. The article is about the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Putin, the president of Russia claims that he wants to take over and invade. He has already sent over troops and tried to start something. To me, this is outraging and more than an amount of plain unfairness.
To start off, Putin has no right to invade and take over Ukraine. He should just mind his own business and worry about Russia and their problems. Putin could be starting a lot by wanting to take over Ukraine, possibly a cold war. That is just un-called for. There are enough problems in Russia at the moment to be focusing on something that is un-needed and dangerous. He is using ammunition and money to do this, while he could use the money to feed the poor, or help Russia in some kind of way.
Secondly, Smith states that this could be a "start of a cold war." What are Putin's wants or what does he think he will benefit if he follows through with this? Maybe an invaded country taken over by the Russians? Why can't Russia just have their own country, its very big. Putin has no right to go in and try to take over a land that is already claimed. In case you didn't know, but Ukraine is called Ukraine, not Russia. We already have enough selfish and greedy people on our planet who take whats not theirs to take or play with.
In conclusion, Putin is making a huge mistake if he follows up with this plan. He will hurt or maybe even kill many Ukrainians. He will hurt the nation entirely and he will start something that didn't need to be started in the first place. Putin needs to know his boundaries and just focus on the country that he is leading, not somebody else's.
